As Margaret Lorber explains the ins and outs of Alexandria City Public Schools, stopping to repeat herself in Spanish, volunteers Tesfaye Amberber and Saud al Halabi quietly translate her words into Amharic and Arabic.

It’s a rainy Saturday morning on Alexandria’s West End and Lorber, Amberber and al Halabi are hosting a parent workshop inside the Ramsay Recreation Center.
